Jumaldi Alfi shifts from painting to installation with Life/Art # 10

Jumaldi Alfi’s exhibition “Life/Art # 101: Never Ending Lessons” was presented by Valentine Willie Fine Art (VWFA) and was displayed in the Annexe Gallery, Kuala Lumpur in October this year. The exhibition includes nine “blackboard” paintings, an installation of a skeleton on a wooden boat and a video. Continue reading

Art world big boys attend second Abu Dhabi art

Abu Dhabi Art, a fair now in it’s second year, has quickly “come of age” reports Abu Dhabi-focussed English-language paper The National. Attracting big name artists, museum-quality artworks and playing host to representatives from the world’s major galleries, the fair has placed “itself squarely on the world art map and [is] making its presence felt.” Continue reading

Christie’s provides first-hand view of top Indonesian artists – event alert

Visualising Indonesia – A Curatorial Journey is part of Christie’s Autumn 2010 Lecture Series in Hong Kong and an event we highly recommend those in the city try to get to. Art Stage Singapore to tap into growing Southeast Asian collector base

Art Stage Singapore will soon be joining the international art fair circuit. The event is planned for January 2011, to be held at the New Marina Bay Sands Water Front Development. 140 not enough: Powerhouse favours Facebook over Twitter in social media experiment

While not strictly related to contemporary or visual art in Asia, we thought this social media experiment undertaken by Powerhouse Museum in Sydney was worth highlighting. The museum took part in Ask a Curator Day, a global activity that utilises the wonders of social media as a primary avenue for museum curators and audiences to interact. While Twitter is generally the favoured communication platform on this day, Powerhouse made the decision to focus on Facebook instead – Twitter’s 140 character restriction was revealed to make any real discussion difficult. Critics can’t fault Pakistani artist Rashid Rana’s Guimet show

Pakistani artist Rashid Rana, 42 is exhibiting twenty-seven sculptures and photomontages in his retrospective called “Perpetual Paradox” at the Musée Guimet in Paris.
