3331 Arts Chiyoda takes chill off winter, residence facilities at discounted rate

The 3331 Arts Chiyoda centre based in Akihabara, Tokyo has announced a special offer to those wishing to take part in its Artist and Curator residence program. Throughout November and December the residence and studio facilities are being offered to artists at a special rate of 200,000 yen (normally 280,000 yen) per month. This is a multidisciplinary residence program that applies to virtually any form of artistic expression. We provide an overview of the programme and the space. Continue reading

Ai Weiwei’s studio party cancelled? Art Radar was there

So the media thought the Ai Weiwei party was cancelled … but it wasn’t. Only a handful of the press were there – Reuters, South China Morning Post, Le Monde and a few others. A few hundred people turned up to the artist’s studio, which served as venue for music, food, overnight residence and political presentation. 2 Indian artists selected to produce new commissions for Liverpool Biennial

Among the ten Asian artists selected to produce new commissions for “Touched”, the name and theme for the Liverpool Biennial International Exhibition 2010, two are contemporary Indian artists. The ten artists are NS Harsha, Ranjani Shettar (India), Do Ho Suh, Minouk Lim (South Korea), Meiro Koizumi, Sachiko Abe (Japan), Song Dong (China), Tehching Hsieh (Taiwan), Will Kwan (Hong Kong), and Tala Madani (Iranian-American). Mid auction season Hong Kong art market update: Sotheby’s sale round-up

The seven day Sotheby’s Hong Kong Autumn 2010 sales series was a revealing and record-breaking event. Most artworks sold for well above estimates, mainland Chinese buyers outnumbered those from Hong Kong and Asian art sales eclipsed those of Western art. New artist village opens in former Taipei squatters’ community

An ongoing project to revitalise and legalise a historic veterans’ community in Taipei has finally been realised, with the opening of the Treasure Hill Artist Village last month. The project has been under government redevelopment since 2006 and was open to the public for one weekend only. The village will now be home to up to 14 artists-in-residence, 22 former locals and a number of arts organisations. A youth hostel is also planned for the area. Continue reading
