YOUNG FILIPINO VISUAL ARTISTS PROFILE LIST

SPOT is a go-to website for Manila events, news and reviews with its features on lifestyle, pop culture and art. It recently published the list “Top 10 Most Successful Young Artists in Manila”, compiled by writer and photographer Monica Barretto, that we talk about here.

Art is not exactly the career of choice for most money-seekers in the Philippines, but these artists have proved the exception. The SPOT-published list below is based on sales figures from recent auctions in Hong Kong and Singapore; international gallery shows and art competition wins aside, the top-grossing artists are,

  1. Ronald Ventura
  2. Geraldine Javier
  3. Nona Garcia
  4. Rodel Tapaya
  5. Yasmin Sison-Ching
  6. Kiko Escora
  7. Annie Cabigting
  8. Winner Jumalon
  9. Andres Barrioquinto
  10. Nikki Luna

  1. Thanks for the comment, Rome. We love getting editorial suggestions from readers. We totally agree that lists of this nature would be useful for readers and art education, and we’ll definitely take your idea into consideration. Thanks again!

  2. It would be cool if someone could list down the top 100 visual artists of the Philippines listed according to all kinds of categories — Name, Age, Top-Grossing, Exhibits, Genres, etc. This kind of information will be very useful in Art Education. Yes?

  3. Whatever happened to El (Emmanuel) Cordova? His works were regularly featured
at Sotheby’s and Christie’s during the early part of this century but has now
    dropped off the radar?

  4. Thank you for your comment. We agree that there are a number of established artists in Manila worthy of recognition. This article, however, was focussing on young artists.
