Yoshitomo Nara shows first-time bronze sculptures: Japan exhibition tour

Starting in July 2012, a huge exhibition of new work by 52-year-old Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara will travel to three museums in his home country.

Yoshitomo Nara’s solo exhibition “a bit like you and me…” is set to open on 14 July 2012 at the Yokohama Museum of Art. It is the artist’s first show at the venue since 2001. The travelling exhibit consists of all new paintings, drawings and, for the first time, bronze sculpture.

Nara began working with bronze, a new medium for the artist, when he was in residence at the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music.

In the artist’s statement for “a bit like you and me…”, Nara comments on how with these new works he aims to move beyond his usual highly-personal style.
