Increased lineup from Asia at Art Basel Miami 2012

Lots of big names and emerging artists from Asia are included in the 2012 edition of Art Basel Miami.

The eleventh edition of Art Basel Miami kicks off this Thursday, 6 December 2012. Asian participants to the fair grew this year, with seven galleries representing the region. Below we have listed those galleries and the artists they are bringing.

Galleries, Novas, Positions and Kabinnetts

The fair will feature four main sections for galleries:

  • Art Galleries, the main section.
  • Art Nova, a section for galleries representing two or three artists with new works.
  • Art Positions, composed of one major project from each participating gallery.
  • Art Kabinett, in which selected galleries from the main section present curated exhibitions in separate, delineated spaces in their booths.

In total there are 257 galleries participating in Art Basel Miami 2012, hailing from five continents and over thirty countries. Of the participants, about half are from the United States and Latin America. In addition to the larger presence from Asia, there will also be two galleries from Africa participating.

In the Art Nova section the sole participant from Asia is Vitamin Creative Space from Guangzhou, China. They will present works from Zheng Guogu and Hao Liang. Neither Art Kabinett nor the Art Positions section has any Asian galleries.

The eleventh edition of Art Basel will be held in Miami Beach, Florida from 6 through 9 December 2012. More than 260 leading galleries from North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa will take part, showcasing works by more than 2,000 contemporary artists.
