“Ethnicity Now”, held at the Indonesian National Gallery in December this year, was expected to be a “small step towards cultivating … pride in an Indonesian art that is rooted in local culture and tradition.” It has, however, been followed by mixed reviews. Some say the Indonesian-made artwork in the exhibition failed to reflect or emphasis the show’s title. Others were impressed by the brilliance, uniqueness and diversity of the display. “Recorded Waves: Moving Images from Indonesia” began at Para/Site Art Space in Hong Kong in November this year. Curated by Para/Site’s Executive Director and Curator Alvaro Rodríguez Fominaya, the exhibition displays an assemblage of examples of the development of video art in Indonesia. It is presented simultaneously with “Jompet.Third Realm”, a solo exhibition of work by celebrated Indonesian artist Kuswidananto aka Jompet.

Jumaldi Alfi’s exhibition “Life/Art # 101: Never Ending Lessons” was presented by Valentine Willie Fine Art (VWFA) and was displayed in the Annexe Gallery, Kuala Lumpur in October this year.
