Groundbreaking art from East or West? Top art professionals debate at Saatchi

Art enthusiasts and those at the top of the art profession gathered on 11 November at The Saatchi Gallery to witness “The Most Ground Breaking Contemporary Art is from the East”. This debate, organised by Intelligence Squared, a global forum for live debate that is dedicated to producing knowledge through contest, explored the growth of Eastern economies and its effect on the globalised art market. And sitting among the audience was Art Radar, armed with a tape recorder and notepad, busy getting the information we pass onto you now.

Valentine Willie Fine Art, located in Kuala Lumpur, presented “3 Young Contemporaries” in October and November this year. As the title suggests, the exhibition contained the work of three Malaysian contemporary artists: Chi Too, Minstrel Kuik and Poodien. It is part of the gallery’s annual exhibition programme that aims to provide a platform for young and emerging artists from the Southeast Asian region. Miao Xiaochun pushes limits of digital art – an Art Radar interview

Chinese digital artist and photographer Miao Xiaochun held his first solo-show at the Ludwig Museum in Koblenz, Germany from 15 August to 3 October this year. The show was entitled “Macromania” and showcased a selection of his work from the past ten years. Pakistani artist Rashid Rana, 42 is exhibiting twenty-seven sculptures and photomontages in his retrospective called “Perpetual Paradox” at the Musée Guimet in Paris. The 3331 Arts Chiyoda centre based in Akihabara, Tokyo has announced a special offer to those wishing to take part in its Artist and Curator residence program. Throughout November and December the residence and studio facilities are being offered to artists at a special rate of 200,000 yen (normally 280,000 yen) per month.
