OPEN CALL | Gwangju, Korea | Call for international curator course | The 8th Gwangju Biennale – 25 June 2018

Gwangju Biennale International Curator Course (GBICC) was launched in 2009 as an open educational platform to foster the professional development of curators, theorists and arts administrators in various fields of contemporary art and design. Since its inception, the course has provided an open platform for collaborative education and expansion of curatorial practice as well as an opportunity for young curators to build an international network. In addition, the course offers a unique occasion to examine the cultural and aesthetic strategy of the Biennale, working closely with the Biennale director, curators and participating artists. This year’s lecturers will include curatorial teams and participating artists of the 12th Gwangju Biennale and several professionals in the field such as Ralph Rugoff, Stephanie Rosenthal and Sebastian Cichocki to discuss their rich experience. OPEN CALL | Madrid, Spain | Call for applications | ARCOmadrid – 29 June 2018

ARCOmadrid is pleased to announce that the call for applications to the 2019 edition of the fair is now open. Peru will be the featured country at ARCOmadrid 2019, which will include a special section – curated by Sharon Lerner, the contemporary art curator at Lima’s MALI Museum – dedicated to a highly informed selection of the most up-to-date work being created by the highest calibre Peruvian artists working around the world. The fair’s General Programme will consist of nearly 200 leading international galleries, selected by the fair’s highly prestigious organising committee. MORE HERE


OPEN CALL | Miami | Call for application | Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami  – 2 July 2018

The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami) convenes the second annual Art + Research Center (A+RC) Summer Intensive, which aims to address the ways in which urgent climate issues and anthropogenic effects apply pressure to contemporary cultural production. The 2018 semester runs from 16 to 28 July and continues ICA Miami’s rigorous education and public programming through the Summer. The deadline to enroll is 2 July. Admission is free to those who are accepted. The Art + Research Center 2018 Summer Intensive encompasses three seminars ranging from very specific discussions related to Miami’s immediate conditions to more abstract probing around what it means to think and produce art on a planet that is rapidly changing. The Fitzwilliam Museum, the lead member of the University of Cambridge Museums (UCM), invites applications for the post of Director and Marlay Curator. The Director provides strategic leadership to the Museum, including leading academic direction and articulating a compelling vision for the Museum’s development in the context of its role as an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation and as an integrated part of the University. The Director and Marlay Curator are charged with the care of the collections and are responsible for the operational and financial management of the Museum and for its strategic development. The successful candidate will have significant experience of senior leadership, likely to be in the museum or heritage sector but the Board will be open to candidates with different experience as long as they can meet the requirements of the role. CIMAM has organised 48 annual conferences in more than 30 different cities since its foundation in 1962. Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture invites Tenure track or Tenured position applications for Professor of Visual Culture and Artistic Practices. The call is open on all levels of the Aalto University tenure track system: Assistant, Associate and Full Professor. The position will begin 1 October 2018, or as agreed. The professorship requires experience, vision and leadership in the fields of visual culture and contemporary artistic practices. This experience should include cultivating student praxis in the context of societal, cultural and philosophical discourses related to visual culture and contemporary artistic practices. Excellent skills in English and a doctorate in a relevant field is required. Applicants will be reviewed on the basis of the following areas: artistic/research merits, teaching, international, collaborative and transdisciplinary competencies, and activity and leadership in academic communities. OPEN CALL | Sweden | Residency call for Yangon-based artists | Skövde Art Museum – 12 June 2018

The International Residency Program at Skövde Art Museum in west Sweden has an open call this year for artists living and working in Yangon, Myanmar. Based on the dialogue between the artist and society, where the museum is an integral part, the Skövde AiRS programme offers one residency to an artist from a designated country/region. For 2019 residency, 6-8 artists in Yangon will be selected for studio visits by the AiRS team visiting Myanmar before the final decision is made. Some of the studio visits in previous years have led to other project engagements with artists. MORE HERE


OPEN CALL | Tokyo, Japan | Call for young filmmakers from Asia | Talents Tokyo 2018 – 15 June 2018

Talents Tokyo 2018 (TT 2018), the Asian talent development and networking platform for film, will take place again from 19-24 November 2018 during the 19th TOKYO FILMeX. TT 2018 invites applications from budding Filmmakers or Producers from East Asia and Southeast Asia for its professional development workshop. Between 12 and 15 successful “Talents” (participants) will have the opportunity to work on their own film projects and build networks among young filmmakers and film professionals throughout the 6-day workshop.
