He was an artist, poet, writer, polemicist, polemicist, teacher, and the most important member of the Belgian symbolist movement. Louvain was the home of Delville on 19 January 1867 at 2.00 a.m., rue des Dominicains. The working class family in which he was born welcomed him into its midst. The mother of Emmanuel was Barbe Libert (1833–1905), the daughter of a canal worker who earned a living as a journalist.
